Milling Cutter Information
Tolerances | |
---|---|
Outside Diameter: | -.005 +.050 |
Width: | +/-.0005 |
Side Clearance
Cutters without side teeth: ½° (Plain Mills and Woodruff Keyway Cutters)
Cutters with side teeth: 3-1/2°
Overlapping Side Milling Cutter Information
The total width of the two sections and not the diameter determines the size of the overlap placed on the cutter.
Overlapping Side Milling Cutter Specifications
Cutter Width | Overlap Used | Expanded Width | Cutter Diameter | Total Width |
---|---|---|---|---|
3/8” to ½” | 1/32” | Approximately 1/16” | 3” | 3/8” to 3” |
½” to 7/8” | 1/16” | Approximately 1/8” | 4” | 7/16” to 3” |
7/8” to 1-1/2” | 3/32” | Approximately 3/16” | 5” and 6” | ½” to 3” |
1-1/2” to 3” | 1/8” | Approximately ¼” | Over 6” | 9/16” to 3” |
Overlapping cutter of widths greater than 3” can be made from 3 or more sections depending on width.
All Arbor Type Cutters other than Overlapping Side Milling Cutters
Cutter Diameter | Total Width |
---|---|
3” | 1/8” to 1-1/4” |
4” | 1/8” to 1-1/4” |
5” and 6” | 3/16” to 1-1/2” |
Over 6” | ¼” to 1-1/2” |
Please note: The diameter of the cutter determines the width of all types of Aber Curved tooth milling cutters.
Rules for Determining Speeds and Feeds
To Find | Having | Rule | Formula |
---|---|---|---|
Speed of cutter in Feet per Minute (FPM) | Diameter of cutter and Revolutions per Minute | Diameter of cutter (In.) multiplied by 3.1416, multiplied by Revolutions per Minute, divided by 12 | D x π x RPM/12=FPM |
Revolutions per Minute (RPM) | Feed per Minute and Diameter of Cutter | Feet per Minute, divided by circumference of cutter in feet (Diameterx3.1416/12) | FPM/D x π/12=RPM |
Feed per Revolution (FR) | Feed per Minute and Revolutions per Minute | Feed per Minute, divided by Revolutions per Minute | F/RPM=FR |
Feed per Tooth per Revolution (FTR) | Feed per Minute and number of teeth in cutter | Feed per Minute (in.) divided by number of Teeth per Minute (number of teeth in cutter x Revolutions per Minute) | F/ (T x RPM)= FTR |
Feed per Minute (F) | Feed per Tooth per Revolution, number of teeth in cutter, and Revolutions per Minute | Feed per Tooth per Revolutions multiplied by number of teeth in cutter, multiplied by Revolutions per Minute | FTR x T x RPM=F |
Feed per Minute (F) | Feed per Revolutions and Revolutions per Minute | Feed per Revolution multiplied by Revolutions per Minute | FR x RPM=F |
Number of Teeth per Minute (TM) | Number of teeth in cutter and Revolutions per Minute | Number of teeth in cutter multiplied by Revolutions per Minute | T x RPM=TM |
RPM=Revolutions per minute | TM=Teeth per minute | T=Teeth in cutter | F=Feed per minute |
D=Diameter of cutter | FR=Feed per revolution | FTR=Feed per tooth per revolution | FPM=Speed of cutter in feed per minute |
